10 Secrets That Will Make You Lose Weight

Losing weight isn’t easy, but it can be simple if you know what you’re doing. After years of trying and failing to lose weight, these 10 secrets have helped me shed 35 pounds in just six months. When I first started, I was skeptical that these hacks would be able to help me lose the weight. Now, I don’t think I could have lost it without them! Try them out yourself, and you might just find the same success that I did!

1) Set yourself up for success

If you want to lose weight, first make sure you’re setting yourself up for success. Some ways to do that: keep your kitchen well-stocked with healthy snacks and ingredients; schedule workouts ahead of time; get enough sleep (at least seven hours); and manage stress. All of these factors can have a huge impact on your ability to shed pounds—and keep them off long term!

2) Stop making excuses

I’m too busy or lack of time is a biggie. If you’re really too busy to start working out, you might be overbooking yourself. It may take some organization and prioritizing, but if exercising is a must for you, carve out those 30 minutes in your day or week—and make them happen. The more excuses you come up with, like not having enough money to join a gym or buy new workout clothes, will only lead to failure. So get off your butt and go do it!

3) Know what you want and how to get it

The first step to any weight-loss plan is knowing what you want. If you know what you want, it’s easier to reach for it (literally and figuratively). Once you have your goal in mind, decide how long you’re willing to wait before getting there. Then, give yourself a timeline that puts that date within reach—so if you’re aiming for three months until a new belt size, set a benchmark each month that can work toward achieving that goal. But remember: Progress is progress! It doesn’t matter if you don’t lose all of your excess poundage in one fell swoop.

4) Do it now

By saying you’ll exercise tomorrow, you’re basically promising yourself that tomorrow will be just like today. And what do you know? Tomorrow is always just like today. If you want to lose weight, it’s best to leave yourself a little wiggle room. Schedule an activity for today and stick with it. The more consistent your activity schedule is, the more fit your body will become—and how great will it feel when you accomplish your goals.

5) Control your cravings

According to Dr. Oz, food cravings are a sign that you’re either eating too many calories, not enough nutrient-rich foods or that your body is deficient in some vitamins and minerals. The good news is, it’s possible to control your cravings by drinking plenty of water and eating more whole grains, which will improve energy levels, reduce hunger and keep you focused. It can also help to get more vitamin C in your diet – especially if you find yourself craving sugar or salty snacks.

6) Stay consistent

Going on a diet every month is not going to help you lose weight. If you're having trouble losing weight, it's better to make lifestyle changes that allow you to be more consistent with your eating and exercise habits. Consistency leads to habits, which leads to success.

7) Skip bad food

Eating right is important when you’re trying to lose weight, but all it takes is one bad habit and your diet can take a turn for the worse. The truth is, it’s all too easy to fall back into old ways of eating—like skipping meals or chowing down on junk food—which can lead to weight gain and health issues. To stay on track with your healthy habits, be sure that you’re eliminating any unhealthy behaviors in your life that might sabotage your progress!

8) Slow down when eating

If you think about it, how much of your mealtime is spent actually eating? Unless you’re devouring a full plate at an all-you-can-eat buffet, probably not much. So savor what you’re eating—and stop when you’re full. While it’s true that our ancestors needed to eat fast so they could catch prey or flee predators, in today’s world a slower pace helps us digest food more easily and fuel our bodies properly.

9) Reward yourself every step of the way

One of the easiest ways to lose weight is to ensure that you’re rewarding yourself every step of your journey. This will help keep you going when things get tough and your motivation starts to wane.

10) No processed foods!

This one’s pretty obvious, but junk food and fast food are loaded with calories. Eliminate these from your diet to lose weight quickly. If you feel you can’t go cold turkey on processed foods, try switching to healthier versions of these products; for example, if your favorite snack is potato chips, try baked versions instead.
